Good afternoon, Greenville.

October’s in full swing: A pumpkin patch ranked by USA Today, live theater and music, a few fall festivals, and a new opening.

FOOD & DRINK

Tacos Without the Usual Rules

Price range: $4-$5 each

Automatic Taco builds its tacos around flavors from well outside the usual playbook, from Nashville hot chicken to Indian butter chicken.

The grilled steak tacos pair tender steak with salsa verde, cotija, peppers, and crema for a well-balanced bite.

A few things to try:

Korean pork belly taco: Kimchi, cashews and teriyaki.

Pork pastor taco: Pineapple, avocado salsa and fresh onion.

Craft cocktails: The lineup includes a mojito and the Winter Wonderland, made with tequila, coconut milk, lime and pomegranate.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Visit This Top-Ten Pumpkin Patch

One of the area’s oldest family farms recently landed a top-ten pumpkin patch ranking, right as fall festival season hits its stride.

Since 1869: Denver Downs, ranked the #7 pumpkin patch in the country by USA Today, has been owned by the Garrison family since 1869 and sits on the National Register of Historic Places.

Beyond the Patch: The fall festival packs 35-plus family activities, live weekend entertainment, farm animals, crackling bonfires, and plenty of food alongside the pumpkin patch and corn maze.

GET OUT OF TOWN

Sassafras Mountain: Three-State Views Without the Hike

About 1 hour from Greenville

At 3,553 feet, Sassafras Mountain is South Carolina’s highest point, and the observation tower on top sits right on the North Carolina line.

A paved road climbs nearly to the summit, and a short, accessible trail leads from the parking lot to the tower. On clear days, views stretch 30 to 50 miles across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.

The drive up U.S. 178 through northern Pickens County is part of the payoff. It’s an easy trip for families, photographers, or anyone wanting big mountain views without a strenuous hike.

Good to know: Gravel parking and restrooms are available beside the lot.

REAL ESTATE

FOR SALE | 3 BEDROOMS | 2 BATHROOMS | 1,457 SQ FT | $345K

This one-level, three-bedroom home between downtown Greenville and Travelers Rest features a window-wrapped bonus bedroom, a fully fenced backyard, and two workshop sheds.

What we like: The kitchen. Granite counters, a center island, and custom banquette seating make it the heart of the home. The layout makes smart use of less than 1,500 square feet, and the hardwood floors and crown molding give it a classic, polished feel. It’s bright, well maintained, and full of character.
