Good afternoon, Greenville!
Did you know South Carolina is named after a king? "Carolina" comes from Carolus — the Latin version of Charles — an honor to King Charles I of England.
Let’s get to it!
RESTAURANT SCENE
The Anchorage
Price range: $18 + ( small plates)
At The Anchorage, the kitchen has settled into a rhythm few in Greenville attempt: a tightly edited, rotating small-plates menu driven by local farms and the season at hand, backed by a bar program of thoughtful wines and inventive, tasty cocktails. The upstairs bar stands on its own, but the four-course tasting table remains the clearest expression of the kitchen’s range—and one of the city’s most complete meals.
What people keep coming back for:
Tuna Crudo — Meyer lemon and dill vinaigrette, crème fraîche, pickled fennel
Craft cocktails — standout pours like the Midnight Special (rye, Punt e Mes, Eno Amaro) and Up in Flames (single malt, chicory, pandan, espresso)
Presentation — refined plating that matches the caliber of the cooking
Service — knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely helpful
Named to the Michelin Guide American South Recommended, a rare nod that puts Greenville firmly on the map.

NEARBY ADVENTURES
We almost hate to give away this gem, but here we are. Oconee County calls it their best- kept secret, and one visit will show you why. No brutal hike required — just serious outdoor fun within easy reach of Greenville.
The Chauga River is the main draw — four sets of rapids for kayaking, canoeing, or tubing, plus a kayak slalom course. Chau Ram Falls, a 30-foot drop where the Chauga River meets Ramsey Creek, is steps from the main parking area. A suspension bridge leads to trails along hillsides, ridges, and rocky riverbanks.
We stopped by on a Sunday — quiet, uncrowded, and nothing but the sound of the falls. Plenty of nicely situated picnic tables make it easy to just sit, eat, and soak it all in.
Note: South Carolina's burn ban is in effect — no campfires or grilling at Chau Ram. Pack sandwiches or grab a bite in Westminster, about 20 minutes away.
