Good afternoon, Greenville!

Quick question before we dive in: What's the best event you've been to in another city that Greenville doesn't offer?

FYI: We’ve moved our happy hour picks inside the Weekly Picks section.

RESTAURANT SCENE

Augusta Grill

Price range: $28-$64

Augusta Grill has been Greenville's go-to for a special occasion since 1993. Crab cakes, filet mignon, melon with prosciutto, heirloom tomato salads — a menu that earns its regulars and keeps them.

Here's what people keep coming back for:

  • The pork tenderloin, served with fresh seasonal vegetables — a standout for diners looking beyond the steakhouse standard

  • The bourbon bread pudding — a crowd-pleaser that rounds out an evening on a high note

  • Service that earns consistent praise by name — the kind of staff that makes private event coordination feel effortless

  • Ketel One Botanical Mules in four variations: Orange & Peach Blossom, Cucumber & Mint, Grapefruit & Rose, and Classic Ketel One

COMMUNITY CORNER

  • The Competition: Over a dozen Upstate chefs vie for six awards, including the new "Traditions With a Twist" prize for the best spin on a classic family dish.

  • Live Music: Greenville's own Rhythm Jab performs alongside the tastings — vote on your favorite dish while supporting a local mission to feed people in need.

NEARBY ADVENTURES

A Lakeside Retreat at the Foot of the Smokies

Lake Junaluska sits at the foot of the Great Smokies — a 200-acre mountain lake ringed by gardens, historic buildings, and some of the most peaceful walking paths in Western North Carolina. Originally built as a Methodist retreat in 1913, it's been open to the public ever since.

The 3.8-mile paved lake trail is the main draw — flat, wheelchair-friendly, and loaded with mountain views. Cross the Turbeville Footbridge to cut it to a 2.3-mile loop. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals are available at Lake Junaluska Outfitters.

Don't miss: Inspiration Point near Lambuth Inn — the lake and mountain views from there are hard to beat.

Best for: Couples, families, and anyone who wants a full day outside without serious hiking.

Good to know: Open year-round. Paddle access is seasonal (Memorial Day–Labor Day). No motorboats allowed on the lake.

Grab a meal at The Terrace Hotel Dining Room right on the lake, or head five minutes into Waynesville for more options.
